Splitting up

Gentry and I decided to spend the weekend, one child to one parent.
Ronan and I headed out to Carmel with Nugget and my folks. One of my favorite parts was watching the Ronan-Nugget duo on the beach. Ronan delighted in how happy Nugget was at the ocean and I remembered how much Ronan loves digging and irrigation projects in the sand. Not much has changed from 9 months to 9 years old:)
I enjoyed having time with my parents as well. We had unseasonably warm weather both days and it was spectacularly beautiful down at the water.
Austin and Gentry headed to a very different climate! They arrived in the mountains to find the Snow Cat almost completely buried in snow. To their great fortune, a team sprung up around them and after several hours of digging with a large crew they were able to uncover the Cat. Always an adventure with Gentry:)
From the stories I heard, the two read, drew and played in the snow. Gentry gave Austin a ski lesson on the hill near our house and she “voraciously” went up and down the hill, over and over again, trying to master the skill.
They built a snowman together
and slowed down to enjoy fires, nature and drawing sessions
With such different children, it is really a special thing to have time one-on-one with each. This learning has been an unexpected blessing of having Austin and Ronan in school in different cities this year, and to all of our surprise, our favorite part of our new bi-city life.
