Gifts

May 15th, 2012 by mica
This afternoon, Ronan and I headed to “the one big house where all the people live.”  He spent last week assembling and decorating packages for the residents at Lytton Gardens and was so excited to have the chance to give them out.  I found myself enjoying one of those wonderful moments in parenting where I can step back and watch my child come alive and be filled with joy as he does something he loves.  His smile was really contagious.

He connected most with this woman, Alva.  She asked for a picture with Ronan to put in her frame and was so enthusiastic about his gift.  He kept returning to chat with her and made me promise that we’d come back to see her again.

Being around small children and births and firsts all the time, I rarely step foot into the world of the aging.  The visit stirred up all sorts of emotions and wonderings for me, and most prominently, I was struck by how differently people approach the end of life.  In our brief visit, I saw apathy, boredom, fear, gentleness and curiosity, to name a few.  I admired the lady above and her exuberance and affection and humanness. There will certainly be more for me to explore in myself as we return and Ronan has us slated to return with our Go Fish cards in hand:)

Ah Mica I love this. What a great place for Ronan to experience realationship and for you to watch him in his element. You are an amazing mother. Sending love your way.
