A Big(ger) Little Man Loves his Momma

It seems like one long, foggy, run-on day ago we were heading to the hospital with a belly full of baby and butterflies to boot, but Ronan turns 8 weeks old today. It’s crazy: he’s already nearly twice his birthweight (well, not counting all the meconium). Even those skinny little chicken legs are starting to chub up.

Yesterday I was spending some time with him in the early morning while his mommy took a nap, and while he seemed content enough with me as company for a while, something changed when mica returned. One look at her and he got the silliest little smile on his face — it’s an amazing thing to see for the first time, and I know how he feels.

So…. today here are a few pics and a short vid of Ronan and his momma at 8 weeks — a celebration of the boy and the one person in the world who makes him smile.

Here we were 8 weeks ago today. You can see Mica preparing for her surgery. In case you don’t know sign language, that’s the universal wive’s sign meaning “get that camera out of here – and don’t you even think about putting this online.”

A few minutes later little Ronan, who at this point didn’t even have a name, was introduced to the world. You can see his momma began her new role with plenty of patience.

Fast forward 8 weeks, countless quarts of breast milk, perhaps hundreds of pounds of dirty diapers, and about 5 1/2 extra pounds of baby, and you end up at today (well, at yesterday):
