Brightworks

Armed with a cart of clothes, snacks, books and more, Ronan and I headed to San Francisco to begin the adventure of a new school. Doesn’t he look just a little bit excited?
After all that excitement and the ensuing restless night of sleep, we arrived at Brightworks for his first day. His face says, “don’t take my picture. And I’m ready for you to go now!”
Ronan was placed with a very kind and wonderful collaborator (the term that brightworks uses for teachers). Ronan is in the “blue band” in a group of eight students. Here’s a shot of him in his learning space.
At the end of the day, I came to pick up Ronan and he was eagerly sharing some of the games he had programmed over the summer. I could barely pull him away from school. That was the sign of a good first day!
Ronan’s classroom started with blank walls. I love seeing what is added on and what is capturing the childrens’ interest:
It is such a relief and so deeply wonderful to see Ronan engaged and excited about school. After the second day he told me, “This isn’t school. School is boring. This is fun camp!”
May it continue to be so:)
