First Week
Woohoo! We made it through the first week of school. Waking sleepy bodies, packing lunches, sunscreening noses, getting kids out the door at a ridiculously early hour with two shoes on their feet and breakfast in their tummies. I’m not sure who is more exhausted by the weekend! But we did it. Balloons and stickers for the kids this afternoon and a glass of champagne for yours truly.
Besides all the early morning work, it has been a solid week. I’ve really enjoyed the nurturing and creative community that our kids have joined. Ronan likes school so far (hallelujah) and is doing his best to adjust to the longer school days. The teachers send photos of the children every day (wow) and here’s Ronan in PE:
And tinkering time:
And here is radiant, Ms. Austin. She is pointing out the bumble bee she painted inside the wooden treehouse. That face!
Upon leaving the first day of class, I asked Austin how it went. She replied with enthusiasm and a smile “Stupendous!”
And today, when I picked her up, she was making the rounds, saying goodbye to each child by name. She impresses me by her social graces and sheer enjoyment of life. It makes me so happy to see her in a school setting where she feels she can really be herself.
Happy weekend to you all!
