Bees!

On Sunday afternoon, we discovered a swarm of bees in our tree in the back alleyway.  Apparently, in the bee world, a fresh swarm is a hot commodity, and within hours of a few phone calls, we had several eager beekeepers at our door.

The first lady was so kind– she brought a book for the kids on bees and even allowed them to try on beekeeper outfits!  Unfortunately, her ladder couldn’t reach the branch for the swarm and we called out happy beekeeper number two for the swarm.  In the middle of the pouring rain, he was elated to rescue the bees and take them to his home where they could warm up and survive the storm.

Wow have we learned a lot about bees the past few days.  There is nothing quite like science in your backyard to make it all relevant!
