Happy Birthday, Austin!

March 6th, 2011 by mica
Last week Austin celebrated her first birthday. It is unbelievable to me that a year has gone by, and although I wish I could freeze Baby Austin in time and space, I think she might have her own thoughts on the matter. At the ripe age of one, she is exploring every nook and cranny of our house (with specific interest in the tupperware drawer and dishwasher, of course), becoming more and more vocal with her five words (mama, dada, ball, hi and bye-bye) and opinions, and trying with all of her might to stand and move. More spunk and personality seem to emerge every day. And yet much remains the same. She still loves to smile, to be held, to nuzzle her head in the corner of her bed. She still lights up when she sees her brother first thing in the morning, appreciates fine dining, and is a joy to be with.

Here is our little lady on her big day (thanks to Grandee for her adorable dress!)

Ronan was the principal chef and decorator behind Birdie’s first birthday cake.

He also won the prize for most creative birthday present. I asked him what he wanted to get Baby Austin, and without skipping a beat, he replied “Honey Nut Cheerios.” He knew that I wouldn’t give these to Austin until after her first birthday and so he thought they’d be the perfect treat. He wanted to hide little sacks of Cheerios for her to find and open.

And the first taste of cake…

Didn’t take her long to figure out that this is the good stuff of life.

Austin loved (perhaps as much as the cake itself?), feeding me pieces. She cracked both herself up and Ronan. Just think, a baby feeding the mama!

Happy Birthday to our favorite Birdie! I don’t know how, but may year 2 be filled with just as much joy and surprise.
