Our Trooper

Today we took Ronan in for a laryngoscopy, a fancy term for the doctor taking a peek at Ronan’s trachea and airway. The procedure required putting Ro to sleep so that the surgeon could take pictures of his airway to see if any obstruction might be causing his chronic croup/asthma/whatever it is.
I was so proud of Ronan. After no breakfast, he spent an hour playing games with me, chasing fish around in the aquarium and making “grumpy” people in the waiting room laugh. After we were admitted into our room, he cheerfully went along with the tests that the doctors and nurses performed. There were several comments about how good, cooperative, talkative and smart a patient Mr. Ronan was.
Even though this was a very minor and safe procedure, I had those usual parent fears about his safety and hoping he came out all in one, coherent piece. After the procedure was finished, he was certainly woozy, but ever so happy to see mama, lime popsicles, and Finding Nemo. The good news: they found nothing abnormal in his airway. The bad news: they found nothing abnormal in his airway. So, we’ll keep plugging along and hypothesizing how to keep this little one healthy during the long winters!
